the band
vocals & guitar: melissa lyn
keys & vocals: nathan dennen
drums & bass & vocals: ryan clark
melissa once bet a friend a falafel, that she would never be in a band with her boyfriend. but dating a drummer eventually took it's toll on her strict 'no boyfriends allowed' policy, so she married him to avoid paying up.
after years of playing solo acoustic shows, Melissa busted out her electric guitar and teamed up with her husband, engineer and producer Ryan Clark to create on dolphin's debut full length album LAYERS, released on vinyl in July, 2016.
"Singer Melissa Lyn states "Drummer and producer Ryan Clark has a great ear for what works". This is apparent on Layers because the album flows as smooth as the San Francisco bay on a calm day." -MusicGuy247
the band's new album SURROUNDED BY THE STORM explores a range of emotions stemming from control and confinement to growth and perseverance, with a hint of nostalgia and a dash of adventure.
the sounds range from straight-forward rock on the opening tracks “Play Pretend” and “Surrounded by the Storm” to the textured dynamics of “At the Lake”. you’ll find nods to 90s era alternative and R&B throughout including “Yellow Bird”, “Out of Control” and “Long Way Down”.
influences include Heart, Belly, Spoon, Aimee Mann, Cat Power, The Breeders, Jets to Brazil, Heat Miser & Des Ark.
